Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Bake the Sponge Base

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a 9×13 inch (20×30 cm) baking pan with parchment paper or grease with butter and flour.

  2. In a bowl, beat the 4 egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks form.

  3. In a separate large bowl, beat the egg yolks with sugar until pale and fluffy. Gradually mix in the warm water and vegetable oil.

  4. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the yolk mixture alternating with the whipped egg whites until smooth.

  5. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 18 to 20 minutes (or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean). Allow to cool completely.

2. Prepare the Custard Cream

  1. Whisk the vanilla pudding powder and sugar into ½ cup of cold milk until smooth.

  2. Bring the remaining 1½ cups of milk to a gentle boil in a saucepan. Pour in the pudding mixture and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, for 2–3 minutes until thick. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.

  3. In a mixing bowl, beat the room-temperature butter until smooth and creamy. Gradually beat in the cooled pudding one tablespoon at a time until a light, velvety cream forms.

3. Assemble and Glaze

  1. Spread the vanilla cream evenly over the cooled cocoa sponge base.

  2. Melt the dark chocolate with butter or heavy cream over low heat or in short microwave intervals until smooth and glossy.

  3. Pour the chocolate glaze over the cream layer and smooth
